What we do
Bea Aling Design is a Garden and Landscape Design Studio based in Sussex.
We specialise in naturalistic design for gardens and spaces of all sizes.
We are passionate about creating smart, natural looking, low impact gardens for clients who want to bring Nature closer to home.
We offer creative solutions for families who want their children to spend more time playing outdoors, at home and safely.
Our goal is to give you a beautiful, practical, low maintenance and wildlife friendly haven that you can enjoy and use all year round.
Our designs are built using locally sourced, sustainable and eco friendly materials and plants.
We are 100% organic and never use peat, pesticides, fungicides, herbicides or synthetic fertilisers.
We never use artificial grass as per recommendations by the Society of Garden Designers (SGD) and the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS).
Who we are
Bea Aling is an RHS accredited Horticulturalist and a garden designer with background in Architecture.
Her experience in construction, her exceptional eye for detail, combined with an understanding of both plants and wildlife, set her apart from other garden designers.
She is a creative force who is happiest outside in all weathers, preferably with dogs.
Bea grew up in Germany and spent most of her childhood outdoors, on farms and in stables. Following her International Baccalaureate, she moved to the UK in 2000 to study Architecture .
From 2006, she carved out a successful career in an international, interdisciplinary practice in London as an architect. She specialised in refurbishing historic buildings but also worked in Urban Design and Masterplanning. She left the corporate world in 2014 to start a family. She started spending more time in outdoors again and rekindled a connection which she had greatly missed.
In 2016, the loss of a beloved Ash tree in her garden created the need for a complete garden redesign. With her understanding of space, context and detail, the design of a garden felt second nature. Her children were also thriving on getting their hands dirty. She gave them their own veg beds so they could watch food grow and harvest it. And like for so many, the garden carried them through the 2020/21 COVID lockdowns and proved an immense treasure. Witnessing this positive impact on her family, Bea knew that working in Horticulture was what she wanted to do.
From 2021, Bea retrained at Plumpton College completing her studies for the RHS Horticulture Certificate with Merit. In 2022, she set up her business as a Garden Designer. She joined forces with an experienced landscaper to build and implement her projects. The landscape team have been building gardens for over 20 years including at Chelsea Flower Show. They are fantastic partners in ensuring that all projects get delivered on time and on budget.
Bea also works at the inspirational Rewilding Project at the Knepp Estate in Sussex. She is a guide for visitors to the Rewilded Walled Garden at Knepp Castle designed by Tom Stuart-Smith, which are Isabella Tree and Charlie Burrell’s private gardens.
Most recently, Bea and her family have relocated to Wildens Cottage near Billingshurst to embrace country life and have added four ducks to their family.
